Honda Files Patents for Two New Electric Scooters in India: Offers 80km Range and 25 kmph Top Speed

Jan 16, 2024

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd has recently submitted patent filings for two upcoming electric scooters named ‘Dax e:’ and ‘Zoomer e:’. These electric scooters appear to have a more simplistic design and appear to target last-mile delivery agents. With a range of up to 80 km and a top speed of 25 kmph, these scooters fall into the category of low-speed vehicles, indicating their focus on efficiency rather than high-performance.

Honda's Dax e: and Zoomer e: electric scooters stand out with their distinctive and unconventional appearance, catering to customers seeking practicality in their rides. Boasting a utilitarian design, both scooters feature a single seat configuration. Powering these electric scooters is a hub motor sourced from Bosch, propelling them to a maximum speed of 25 kmph. This characteristic speed range positions the scooters as low-speed electric vehicles, potentially exempting them from registration requirements and road tax obligations.

The Honda Dax e: features a raised handlebar, a singular circular headlamp, telescopic front suspension, front disc brakes, alloy wheels, a tubular spine, a single seat, and a battery pack positioned underneath. On the other hand, the Honda Zoomer e: showcases a robust external frame, two circular headlamps, alloy wheels, disc brakes, and dual-sided rear coil spring suspension. Both electric scooters boast a claimed range of 80 km per charge, providing users with sufficient mileage for their journeys.

Honda is preparing to introduce its first electric scooter in the Indian market, but it remains uncertain whether the Honda Dax e: and Honda Zoomer e: models will be included in the lineup. Honda has already announced plans to launch the Honda Activa Electric in India, set to make its debut in 2024. The Honda Activa Electric will be built upon the foundation of the current petrol-powered Honda Activa and will face competition from electric scooters such as the Ola S1 Air, Ather 450X, and TVS iQube. The release of the Dax e: and Zoomer e: in the Indian market is yet to be confirmed.
