Dubliners are invited to take part in a fun-filled bike parade next week. The event, organised by Dublin City Council, will take place on Wednesday 26th June at 3.30pm, as part of the Velo-city international cycling conference.
Delegates attending the Velo-city cycling conference will depart from the Convention Centre Dublin, travelling along a section of the Sutton to Sandycove (S2S) cycle route.
Cycling enthusiasts, school children and families who wish to take part in the Bike Parade with the conference delegates can join the route at the Sails Sculpture which is located in Clontarf, at the junction of Clontarf Road and Alfie Byrne Road.
The Bike Parade is just one of the exciting activities happening in the city to celebrate the world's largest cycling conference coming to Dublin, Velo-city 2019 "Cycling for the Ages", which is taking place in the Convention Centre Dublin from 25th to 28th June 2019.
The Bike Parade itself promises not only to deliver to the cyclists some spectacular views of Dublin along the way but participants will also be entertained with extracts from the award-winning play by Steward Parker, Spokesong on a mobile stage towed by a bicycle with a live piano performance en route!
Also leading the Bike Parade will be The Freedom Machine – a group of women on bikes and in costume celebrating the important historical role of bicycles for suffragettes and the emancipation of women.
The parade will end in St. Anne's Park, Raheny where the 98FM Thunder Bus will be there to entertain the crowd.
The event will feature a host of spectator and participation activities such as music, cricket, yoga, athletics, ultimate Frisbee, cargo bike trails, mountain bike and BMX courses, Gaelic Football and Hurling/Camogie demonstrations.
There will also be a spectacular arena show to enjoy, The Ultimate Extreme Battle – Mountain Bike Stunt Rider versus BMX Stunt Rider versus Freerunner.
Attendees can expect to see double back flips from the amazing freerunners who featured on Britain's Got Talent! Local food traders will be on-site in the Park serving a diverse hot and cold food selection, catering for all tastes.
98FM are the official media partner of the Velo-city Bike Parade. You can register for the event here.
Speaking at the photocall to launch the Bike Parade, newly elected Lord Mayor of Dublin Paul Mc Auliffe said; "On behalf of the city, I look forward to welcoming the international delegates attending the Velo-city 2019 Cycling Conference next week. I hope that while they are here they will have the opportunity to experience all our wonderfully friendly and vibrant city has to offer. I’m sure that the one of their highlights will be taking part in the Bike Parade as it will allow them to enjoy unparalleled views of Dublin Bay".
