Clean up our air to look after your mind this #CleanAirDay

Dec 05, 2023

The UK's largest campaign on air pollution is back for another year. Co-ordinated by Environmental Protection Scotland, this year's theme is: Clean up our air to look after your mind this #CleanAirDay.

Aberdeen City Council is hosting a Clean Air Day event on St. Nicholas Street outside Marks and Spencers on Thursday 15th June between 10.30am and 3.30pm to promote the benefits of reducing pollution to improve air quality.

A number of organisations will be present including the Council's Cleaner Air for Aberdeen, Low Emission Zone (LEZ) and Hydrogen Project teams; Big Issue bikes; First Bus; Enterprise Car Club; Energy Savings Trust; Getabout; and Sustrans.

Alongside the event, the Protective Services team is running an art competition for Aberdeen City Council primary 6 pupils to submit designs, with the first prize being a voucher for a bike. The winning entries will also be displayed at the Aberdeen Science Centre from early July until mid-August, with the winners announced on Clean Air Day.

Council Co Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: "Clean Air Day is a fantastic event which helps raise awareness of the importance of taking positive steps to improve our air quality. By walking, cycling or using public transport, we can all help improve air quality whilst being beneficial to our own health."

Council Co Leader Councillor Christian Allard said: "Improving our air quality is good for us in many ways. It not only benefits our physical health but also our mental health. It is great to see young people getting involved with the campaign through the art competition. I look forward to seeing the winning design."

A presenter from Original 106 will be doing live feeds from the event, which will also feature the Human Hedges street entertainers. A hydrogen car, an electric car and a cargo bike will be on display.
