Thok releases its first carbon bike

New electric enduro bike has an eye-catching design, from paint to frame features

The new Thok Gram electric mountain bike is the Italian brand's first carbon fibre bike.

The mixed-wheeled, or mullet, mountain bike is powered by Shimano's EP8 electric bike motor and sports 170mm of rear-suspension travel.

The Gram's EP8 motor is powered by a removable 630Wh battery, a combination it shares with its aluminium stablemate, the Thok TK01.

Just like the TK01, the Gram features a healthy pinch of flair, with Thok's T-Ribs, T-Stopper and T-Front frame features.

There are two builds available: the Gram and the Gram RC. Both models are available in sizes S-XL.

The Gram costs £6,990 / €7,490, while the flagship Gram RC with premium components costs £8,990 / €9,900.

The Gram's geometry is intended to back up its enduro intentions and should offer an efficient climbing position paired with a confidence-inspiring stance on the descents.

Claimed to be the result of two years of R&D on the trails of Finale Ligure in Liguria, Italy, the Thok Gram electric mountain bike has several flamboyant frame technologies.

The frame itself looks rather sleek, with fully integrated cables that are routed through channels mounted into the frame's carbon layup.

It also has a paintjob courtesy of Aldo Drudi, who has provided custom-painted helmets for the likes of Valentino Rossi and other big names in MotoGP.

The linkage bearings in the frame are pressed directly into the carbon frame, without the use of aluminium inserts. Thok claims this has enabled it to increase rigidity in the suspension linkage, while minimising friction.

Thok has used what it calls ‘T-Ribs’ on the frame, which are two small braces between the seat tube and the down tube, just above the bottom bracket area. These are said to improve lateral rigidity in the frame, as well as helping to dissipate pressure and make pedalling more effective, according to Thok.

There is also a T-Stopper, which is an integrated steering lock. This should prevent the handlebar from coming into contact with the carbon frame in the event of a crash, while saving the internally routed cables from being ripped out of place by over-rotation of the bars.

The T-Front is perhaps the most eye-catching feature of the Thok's frame, with the brand's signature ‘Viper Head Plus’ head tube junction paired with the oversized 1.8in head tube.

The T-Front is said to reduce stresses on the front end of the bike over rough terrain.

Finishing touches to the mixed-wheel Thok Gram frame include a SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger dropout and an integrated rear mudguard.

The Thok Gram's geometry sheet is on-trend for the enduro mountain bike market.

There is a steep 78-degree effective seat tube angle, which should help to keep the rider in a comfortable and efficient climbing position.

The 450mm chainstays (across all sizes) are intended to keep the front end down on steep uphills.

A 64-degree head angle and roomy reach (475mm in size large) should put the rider in a confidence-inspiring stance downhill.

The Thok Gram is available in two models, the Gram and Gram RC, both coming in four sizes (S, M, L and XL).

All models and sizes utilise a mullet setup, with a 27.5in rear wheel paired with a 29in front wheel.

The ‘entry-level’ Thok Gram costs £6,990 / €7,490 and shares the same frame as the flagship RC model, but with cheaper componentry.

A Fox 38 Rhythm fork and DPS shock take care of the suspension, with a mix of SRAM's entry-level SX and NX Eagle drivetrain components handling the transmission. Stopping power is delivered by SRAM DB8 brakes, which are paired with 200mm SRAM HS2 rotors.

The flagship Gram RC costs £8,990 / €9,900. It features top-of-the-range Fox Factory suspension, a SRAM GX Eagle AXS wireless drivetrain and Shimano XT brakes with 203mm rotors.

Thok's pricing includes VAT and shipping costs, as well as essential tools required for setting up the bike, such as a shock pump and multi-tool, as well as a spare UDH.

A goodie box is also included, packed with a bottle and bottle cage, among other items.
